Abstract

• August 2020, the combined inflation of 5 CPI cities in South Sulawesi was -0.10 percent or there was a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 104.87 to 104.76 in August 2020. Of the 5 CPI cities, all cities experienced deflation. The highest deflation occurred in Kota Parepare at 0.24 percent, while the lowest deflation occurred in Kota Bulukumba at 0.04 percent.
• Deflation occurred due to a decrease in some of the index for the expenditure group, namely the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.84 percent; the housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels group of 0.02 percent; the transportation group of 0.32 percent; and the recreation, sports and culture group by 0.01 percent; while other expenditure groups experienced inflation, namely the clothing and footwear group by 0.17 percent; equipment, tools and household routine maintenance group by 0.15 percent; the health group of 0.05 percent; the information, communication and financial services group of 0.07 percent; the education group of 0.10 percent; the food and beverage / restaurant supply group by 0.02 percent and the personal care and other services group by 1.98 percent.
• The calendar year inflation rate is 1.45 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (August 2020 against August 2019) is 1.36 percent.
