Abstract

• July 2020, the combined inflation of 5 CPI cities in South Sulawesi was -0.40 percent or there was a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 105.29 to 104.87 in July 2020. From 5 CPI cities, two cities (Makassar and Bulukumba ) experienced deflation and three cities (Watampone, Parepare, and Palopo) experienced inflation. The highest deflation occurred in Makassar City by 0.54 percent while the highest inflation occurred in Watampone City by 0.35 percent.
• Deflation occurred due to a decrease in some indexes of the expenditure group, namely the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.53 percent and the transportation group by 2.63 percent, while other expenditure groups experienced inflation, namely the clothing and footwear group by 0.03 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group of 0.05 percent; household appliances, equipment and routine maintenance by 0.09 percent; health group of 0.18 percent; information, communication and financial services group of 0.05 percent; recreation, sports and culture group by 0.09 percent; education group by 0.03 percent; the food and beverage / restaurant supply group by 0.11 percent and the personal care and other services group by 0.34 percent.
• The calendar year inflation rate is 1.55 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (July 2020 against July 2019) is 1.81 percent.
